Great news, especially for commuters (like me)
Sandy Carmany has a post announcing that HEAT (Higher Education Area Transit) will begin on August 8th, offering public transportation to local college and university students.
I was honored to have been a part of some of the preliminary planning on this, along with other members of the UNCG Student Government Association, when the folks planning it came to us for our ideas and thoughts.
Seeing as though I won’t be on campus in the fall and will be commuting from Winston-Salem (it isn’t that un-heard of really), I am definitely going to see if I can’t work out my transportation needs with PART (Piedmont-Area Regional Transportation), the Greensboro City Transit and, now, HEAT.
If there are days that I don’t have to be in Greensboro until late at night and I can return to Winston-Salem around 4 or 5, I think I definitely might try using the public transportation systems. It will save me money (that I don’t have to use for gas), it will take my gas-guzzling, air-polluting truck of the road for a day or two (maybe three) each week, and I’ll have extra time to read, study or do homework while riding on the buses.
I wonder if HEAT has a website yet?
Update: Yes, HEAT has a website, YAY!
