Just got back

by Matt | August 26th, 2006 |

Just got back to my house in Winston-Salem. I spent the whole day in Charlotte for the Pride Charlotte festival. We had a success with the NC Advocacy table and I took a bunch of great pictures, including some of the crazed, religious fanatics from Operation Save America who stood outside of the festival all day shouting their throats through loud speaker systems and blowing wierd looking “Horns of God” (ooo… that so could be twisted to mean something else, lol).

I would take the time right now to post the pictures in the photo gallery but I am now heading up to my family’s mountain property in Lambsburg, Virginia. A few family members headed up there this weekend and I thought I might join them for a night.

Maybe I’ll get the chance to post the pictures in the gallery once I get up there.

  2. Hey Matt,
Glad to hear everything went well. Sorry I couldn’t have been there with ya, I know I missed it! I have been waiting all day to hear about what happened. I’m not at all surprised to hear that Operation Save America was out in full force - at least they knew they couldn’t intrude on the event like last year.

I still remember having conversations with Flip Benham (OSA’s president) and the right out hateful & bigoted message he was there to promote - such statements as “You can’t make a civil right out of a moral wrong.” Mr. Benham has a customized version of the Bible that helps with his spreading falsities.

As for “that wierd Horn of God”… it’s really not that weird at all. I must say, coming from a background very familiar with the Jewish-culture, that “horn” is called a shofar. It’s actually a ram’s horn. It does have Biblical history and many believe that the “trumpet of the Lord” will be a shofar… I encourage you to do some research on the shofar and it’s importance. Now for the purpose it’s being used at Pride Charlotte… I’m sure it’s in total vain.

What’s surprising, today I was at work and couldn’t find any information about what was happening. It seemed that very little news media wanted to cover it this year (last year several websites had online video footage, etc). Nonetheless, I was sure that OSA was going to be involved, so I visited their website to find out more info. My employer had their site blocked - it violated the company’s diversity policy. Isn’t that funny? I was able to access nearly every LGBT-related website I wanted, but not OSA. A “more info” screen stated that the website violated the company’s view on diversity and created an unsafe work environment for such to be access on company time. FYI, I’m employed by a very large telecommunications company that produces fiber optic cable.

Anyway, can’t wait to see some of the photos. I know I took tons last year… including quiet a bit of video footage of the crazed OSA peeps. Maybe they will soon learn - no one likes their twisted message. They are making as much fools of themselves as Fred Phelp’s bunch who picket US Solider’s funerals…
