Gay life at UNC and its gay rankings
The Daily Tar Heel (UNC-Chapel Hill) has two good articles out in today’s edition.
The first reports on UNC-CH’s recent listing in the top 100 best colleges for LGBT students in The Advocate College Guide for LGBT Students, authored by Charlotte native Shane Windmeyer.
The second is entitled “UNC gay life changing.” It focuses on LGBT student life at the University and talks about the successes of the GLBTSA, the gay-straight student group (the largest of its kind in the Southeast - according to the GLBTSA co-chair), and the LGBTQ Center of the University. Matt Telford, an old friend of mine from the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County School System, is the first person quoted in that article. He came out his freshman year at Wake Forest. Although he wasn’t out in high school, I think he was able to find a good group of friends who were accepting of him nonetheless. I’ve fallen out of touch with him in recent years, but from the looks of the article, it seems Matt has found a good place at Chapel Hill.
Kudos to The Daily Tar Heel. Great coverage today.
