NC State rears its ugly anti-gay face #4; Student says create a gay island

by Matt | October 28th, 2006 |

NC State LGBT Center. The most up-to-date news right here.

Yeah… the ignorance and stupidity has only gotten worse at our supposedly “fine” state institution known as NC State University.

Again, I’m highlighting some of the anti-gay bigotry, hate and prejudice emanating from the “Students Against NCSU LGBT Center” Facebook group debate over the proposed LGBT student center on NC State’s campus (past stories). All of the debate started when NC State’s Student Senate approved their support of the proposed center on October 18, 2006.

This comment, from student DeAndre’ Johnson, deserved to have a post all its own (yeah, you guessed it, the improper grammar and spelling belongs to Johnson, not me):

gay people should all be put on an island and let them be gay together its an abomination to man kind. if God wanted gay people to strive he would have givin them the means to reproduce but because their HOMO sexuals this isnt posible. put all gya people on an island and see how long their ways last.

You know… that sounds eerily similar to some of what the minister at the small, independent, Baptist church I grew up in said. The only difference is that he couldn’t make up his mind on whether he wanted to kill us by putting us on a ship, plucking a hole in the side and sending it out to see or by giving us one or two states of the Union and letting us die out because we can’t have kids (which is total B.S. because plenty of gay people are parenting).

I guess all this anti-gay vitriol and feeling is the reason why this was reporting in a 2004 report on student survey trends at NC State:

When asked about the perceived supportiveness of the campus for various student groups (since 2000), respondents have been most likely to say the campus is “strongly supportive” of men, and least likely to say the campus is “strongly supportive” of gay and lesbian students in all survey years. However, beliefs that the campus is at least “mildly supportive” of gay and lesbian students have markedly increased over time: from 26 percent in 2000 to 42 percent in 2004.

Let’s not forget about how physically threatened gay students feel at NC State either (info from the official proposal for the LGBT Center (page 6), citing a 2004 student diversity climate survey):

Question 3e (“Feel physically threatened at NCSU?”) shows that many more of the GLB students, especially the males, either sometimes or always/often feel physically threatened. About 17% of the undergraduate males (GB) and 26% of the graduate student males (GB) express this fear; this is in contrast to about 6% of heterosexuals.

An LGBT student center isn’t needed? There are plenty of resources (as some of the anti-gay students have said)? LGBT students don’t need the center? Oh. My. God. You have GOT to be friggin’ kidding me!

  2. hahahha. I love the HOMO sexuals part. Does he not realize he’s a HOMO too? Yeah, maybe someone should hand him an anthropology book and show him that he’s a HOMO sapien. Bet that would rile him up!

  3. Yeah… I would agree with you on that, but these people aren’t really the kind of people who enjoy learning and going beyond their own, small, narrowly defined perspective on the world. They’ve got the Bible and to them, that is all they need (except for, of course, the once-in-a-while use of words like “fag,” “faggot” and “queer”).

  4. which is ironic because my bible, which I read everyday, does not contain the words “fag” “faggot” and “queer”. Wonder what their reading????
