Luke’s Story

by Matt | November 21st, 2006 |

van hansis lukeI was browsing YouTube last night and found videos of Luke Snyder (the gay teenage character on CBS’ As the World Turns, pictured right, coming out to his father, Holden) and his coming out story. It is very moving and I think I even cried a couple of times. Luke isn’t shown as a perfect person… he’s shown as a flawed person, a person with issues and troubles - He is shown as a normal teenager. It is a great story and I wish now that I had kept up with the soap opera (although I was looking at some updates online and you know how soap operas are; it wouldn’t be hard to catch up on the story at all).

You can read more about the character of Luke Snyder here (which is what I’ve used to catch up on the entire story).

Here are the videos, in order from top to bottom (btw… the guy who plays Luke is REALLY cute, lol):

  2. I’ll have to check this out later. There is a lesbian coming out story on a show called South of Nowhere (it is in its 2nd season) on the N network. If you have digital cable you are able to see it. However, wonderful users on youtube have posted the storyline just pertaining to Spencer and Ashley and they are together. Ashley is out to everywhere and Spencer is hardly out to anyone (especially her parents). Her mother catchs Spencer and Ashley having sex and kicks Ashley out of the house.

The storyline then goes into how her family tries to ‘fix’ with ‘therapy’. It’s quite powerful and makes me very grateful of how my parents are so accepting of me. Just thought I’d let you know there are other TV storylines and plots dealing with LGBT issues :)
