Planning for Austin

I’m hoping all holiday travel and all this nasty weather stuff is over by January 3rd… the day I leave here for almost a week worth of training, fundraising, community building and friend-making with the rest of the folks going on the 2007 Equality Ride. (Brandy will be coming along, as well)
I sat down yesterday to put together a packing list. I can’t help but feel as though I’m forgetting something.
Other than that, however, my packing list for just a few days is SO long. How in the world will I be able to pack for the two months I’ll be spending on the Ride? I’ve always “packed like a woman” though, or so say many of my friends accustomed to seeing me drag all my stuff to monthly meetings of the Association of Student Governments.
I’ve never been to Austin, though… Anybody have any tips? What are the costs of things like down there? More expensive than here in North Carolina? Unreliable weather? Allergies? What’s the deal?
The Weather Channel has a good outlook for us while we are down there, January 3rd-8th. I’m packing some shorts, lol.

I’m here in Austin and would forget about packing the shorts. It’s actually been a bit cooler here than the forecasters predictions. We are also looking at rain in the forcast during your visit. I can’t help with your question regarding costs because I have never been to your part of the country. Although it’s possible that costs may be higher here considering Austin is the state capital and a college town.
I checked the Equality Ride website and couldn’t find any info about what activities your group will be conducting here in Austin. Maybe I just couldn’t locate the info.

Thanks txrad…. I’ll skip out on the shorts (maybe… or maybe I’ll still pack them and hope for the best, lol). The rain: maybe my grandparents were being psychic when they bought me a new umbrella the other day, lol.
The Equality Ride site hasn’t been updated in a while. Info for the upcoming Ride won’t be updated until they have a chance to gather it all when we all get together this week. I have a feeling that the Friday night fundraiser or whatever might be private. I really don’t know much, to tell you the truth.
