Considering that ex-governor Jim McGreevey spoke to us at the Equality Ride fundraiser, I thought that this story was interesting, from 365gay.com:
Dina Matos McGreevey, the estranged wife of former New Jersey Governor James McGreevey, has signed a book deal with Hyperion, a division of ABC, Inc.
To be titled “Silent Partner” it will deal with her life with the former governor and the night McGreevey told her he was gay and was about to announce it publicly.
“As I watched the coverage and read Jim McGreevey’s speech, I found myself wondering what Mrs. McGreevey was going through — before, during, and after this experience,” said editor Brenda Copeland, who negotiated the book deal.
“That’s the story I’ve always wanted to know, and that’s the story she has told in ‘Silent Partner.’”
McGreevey stunned the nation on Aug. 12, 2004, by declaring he was “a gay American” and announcing that he had been involved in an affair with a man and would resign.
Matos McGreevey was at his side as he made the announcement. They slit up immediately after. She lives in New Jersey with the couple’s five-year old daughter Jacqueline.
McGreevey has published his own book on his coming out. In the “The Confession” McGreevey writes about having sex with aide Golan Cipel on the night his wife was in hospital delivering their daughter.
In his book “The Confession” McGreevey writes: “I Took Golan by the hand and led him upstairs to my bed. We made love like I’d always dreamed.”
Cipel denies the affair but claims he was the victim of sexual harassment by the governor.
Matos McGreevey’s book will be the first time she has commented on her marital breakup and her former husband’s sexuality.
“I’ve had a lot of requests for interviews and appearances, but thought it best for my daughter and myself to stay out of the public maelstrom,” she said in a statement Thursday.
“But two years have passed and still I am the subject of much speculation as to the nature of my relationship with my husband. Enough is enough.”
The former governor and his partner, investment adviser Mark O’Donnell also live in New Jersey.
