No doubt Alan... the Supreme Court will have to speak out on this issue eventually. There is WAY to much division among the states for this issue to ever have a nationally consistent resolution without action on a national level. I doubt that the Congress will speak out on it soon. The Supreme Court will likely be the one to make the decision, BUT with the Court we have now, if the decision were made now, I doubt it would be the decision we all would like.

Legal advocacy through the courts can be a good thing and sometimes it works, but it can also backfire if not used correctly.

1967's Loving v. Virginia ruling legalizing interracial marriage seems to me to have the unintended consequence of establishing marriage as an issue that should not always be left for the individual states to address on their own but one in which the National Courts have jurisdiction. Ultimately, the SCOTUS will be forced to step in and override the patchwork of difference state amendments and laws to bring a national consistency.

Have a good time on the bus kids.

Yuppers. Ten years from now folks my age will be in power in DC and across the nation and we'll force the older ones to apologize.

<i>The time to organize for that is now, not 10 years down the road."</i>

Correct. Ten years from now, today's young politicians will be apologizing for the anti-gay votes they cast ten years ago.
