We arrived yesterday in Sioux Center, Iowa, for our stop at Dordt College, at about 6:45pm (Central). We went to eat dinner at a wonderful pizza place… Shelley, one of the workers there, has the honor of being our FIRST friendly, loving, accepting and kind community member along the road. Her smiles and laughs made the evening a blast.
We came back to the hotel and a just an hour or so later we notice that some younger guys are driving around and around the hotel, mooning us. Although mooning us is all they did, it freaked some of us out. I don’t think I was much affected by it. It was just some young kids who probably should have been in bed getting ready for school in the morning. Needless to say, however, the old “buddy system” was quickly put into effect and for all us smokers (yeah, yeah, I know… I need no speech) will no longer be venturing outside alone.
I’ll have another video coming up either in the very early morning hours of Thursday the 8th or sometime in the evening, depending on how long it takes to process, if I messed up and have to go back and edit more and how long YouTube takes to upload it.
As for now… feast your ears on what is some of the most virulently anti-gay speech I have ever heard in the realm of North Carolina politics… This is the WUNC radio report on the Anti-gay marriage rally down at the State Legislative Building on Tuesday, March 6th. It drew some 6,000 (according to police) and somewhere between 10,000-12,000 according to others. Ian Palmquist of EqualityNC did a great job.
WUNC… North Carolina Marriage Rally
It really does not surprise me at all what was said at this rally down in Raleigh. Is it sickening? Yes. Surprising? Not at all. The beliefs espoused by those at the Raleigh marriage rally are the EXACT same beliefs we will be challenging on the Equality Ride and across the nation. They are the EXACT same beliefs we will challenge, with open arms and love, on the campus of Dordt College and throughout Sioux Center on Thursday and Friday… and they are the EXACT same beliefs we will challenge at places like Baylor University, Mississippi College, Oklahoma Baptist University and Bob Jones University.
Again, I hope you will keep us all within your hearts, minds, thoughts and prayers, as we seek to do the work of the Lord, in bringing love and justice to all God’s Children.
