An aide for Patrick McHenry’s 2004 campaign has been indicted by a North Carolina court on voter fraud.
The indictment charges that Michael Aaron Lay, 26, illegally cast his ballot in two 2004 Congressional primary run-offs in which McHenry was a candidate. The charges indicate that Lay voted in a district where it was not legal for him to vote.
At the time Lay was listed as a resident in a home owned by 32-year-old McHenry but campaign records indicate Lay’s paychecks were sent to an address in Tennessee. McHenry won the primary by only 86 votes. According to Gaston County, North Carolina District Attorney Locke Bell, Lay was indicted on Monday, May 7 by a local grand jury.
Michael Aaron Lay, 26, voted in two different primary run-offs in which McHenry was a candidate. Lay is registered to vote at 1100 Requa Road, Cherryville, NC, the home of Patrick McHenry. According to the North Carolina State Board of Elections website, both McHenry and Lay still live in the same precinct (although it doesn’t give their home address).
Back in Decemeber, I posted about this small voter fraud issue with McHenry and Lay. Many will also remember the numerous posts I made on the rumors circulating on Patrick McHenry’s sexual orientation. Quite a controversy that was then and I think it is about to get just as interesting this go-’round.
Just who is this man living with Patrick McHenry? Why does it seem McHenry’s campaign tried to cover up the fact that Lay lived with him (they sent his paychecks to another address)?
And… McHenry just hasn’t had a good past few days, has he? The poor guy just can’t catch a break:
