I feel for him. Really I do.

We found out today that Michael Glatze (pictured right with Judy Shepard), the founder and managing editor of YGA Magazine and the organization Young Gay America, has become “ex-gay.”

He “came out” in a column he wrote and an accompanying news article at the right-wing, conservative Christian WorldNetDaily.com.

Earlier today, I published a commentary on the news at IQN.

I will certainly pray for Glatze. His situation reminds me of a friend of mine. Like my friend, Glatze has real problems with issues other than being gay. Like my friend, Glatze – through his own admission – has (or had) real problems with substance abuse, pornography addiction and sexual problems. Being gay has nothing to do with it: After all, there are real gay people who are perfectly healthy and well-adjusted.

I hope Glatze finds whatever it is he is looking for and I hope that he is treated with respect and kindness. If I ever have the chance to meet him I will treat him just as I did with the person I now call a good friend: I will show respect for his own decisions and his own path to what is right for him and his life.

I just wish Glatze wasn’t putting his “ex-gay” lies on the rest of us.
