Separate prison facilities for trans inmates?
I was just sitting and watching CNN World today and a story came on about a prison in the Philippines. The actual story was about how the prison officials starting making prisoners dance and do other funny, light-hearted things in order to break down gang activity (surprisingly, it worked), but what surprised me most was an interview with a transgender inmate.
The inmates who were male-to-female are actually housed separately in jails cells… not in the same cells as those who identify as male. Obviously, the transgender inmates are in themen’s prison because they are biologically male, but the fact that the prison would recognize that they identify as another gender and house them appropriately is astonishing.
Does any body know whether or not this happens in America or not?
