F#$k it… I guess I’m just a bigot then…
Why is that I’m always the one being called a bigot?
Why the f#$k are people so quick to judge… If only they would take the freaking time to read (oh… that’s right, our education systems are failing) then I wouldn’t be getting these kinds of emails (I usually don’t post stuff like this, but since they commented anonymously through email (using a fake email address) it won’t hurt to have their words printed anonymously here)…
Am I wrong to think this is a pro-LGBT website? Why does it read like right wing hate speech? How can you support Lee Chauncey in this subject matter? He just exploited and wrecked someone’s life and you side with him? He writes absurdly hateful comments saying that he understands ts women because he owns a sex shop? You are worse than he is for sanctioning such bigotry. Shame on you.
Shame on me?! Shame on ME?! Take the freakin’ time to read (if you can).
I responded…
Although I probably think this is a fake email address, or rather one that may not belong to the person who sent me the original email, I’d like to respond…
I did not condone what Mr Chauncey did. I played moderator on the site after the huge debate started but at first called Mr. Chauncey a bigot. After his comments I came to realize that he wasn’t necessarily a “bigot” although I think his views might definitely be wrong and that he needs some education. I’ve said as much on the site. I’ve also said that I think Mr. Chauncey *could* someday be a good LGB *and* T ally if only he had the education and that attacking him - instead of giving him the education he needs calmly and politely and respectfully - would only turn him into the bigot we wish not to see him as.
I’ve agreed with a lot of what InterstateQ.com reader, fellow blogger and commenter Beth has had to say, although I’ve had to disagree with her tactics and personal attacks.
I’m sorry you were quick to jump to conclusions about where I stood on this issue. Have a nice day.
Thanks,
Matt Comer

By the way… Don’t forget that Bigot Matt has already announced he’s holding a laid-back, informal discussion on trans issues because I realize I’m not as educated on them as I should be. Now… That really sounds like what a bigot would do.
It is shit like this that makes me want to pack up and say F#$k it. I’m tired of stupid people.
Hmf… My site reads “like right-wing hate speech”? This person has obviously never read my site in detail and/or never seen what right-wing hate speech really looks like.

Matt, I am definitely grateful for your efforts in all this. I would *love* to be there for your coffee talk…I’m sure I’d learn a thing or two.
This is the way of things in the blogging age, isn’t it? The one thing you can be sure of when you discuss controversial issues is someone mis-reading you or taking your words out of context and building a case against you. It’s always forced me to be very precise and very careful about what I say and what I don’t say (probably a good thing). Nevertheless, I’m sorry you’ve had to deal with this kind of stuff. It’s definitely maddening sometimes, isn’t it?

I hope you don’t give in to that temptation to pack it in. I think your site does a lot of good, and attacks like this one is an unfortunate side effect of being willing to use your voice like you have.

And this is why I don’t like the word “bigot”.
