After a long absence, I’m back… with great news

by Matt | October 3rd, 2007 |

It certainly has been a while - at least when compared to my past blog posting standards - since I have written here. So I apologize, but there is a good explanation, I promise.

Last Wednesday (as I announced here as the site - once again - changed its look) I moved from my beloved Winston-Salem and Greensboro, NC areas of the world down to Charlotte, NC. I announced then that it was for a new job and said I had told a few friends. Now that I’ve actually started and gotten into the thick of my new work I thought I’d take the time to come back to the blog and give you all an update.

Of course, that hasn’t been easy. My new apartment has yet to have internet hooked up and Monday and Tuesday at work were so busy for me I just couldn’t take the time to update everyone.

But here it is… and I’m so excited to be sharing this with all of you. As of Monday, October 1, 2007, I am the new Editor of Q-Notes (www.q-notes.com), the LGBT newspaper of North & South Carolina. Here in the office I am in charge - of course, with the team work of other staff members, the Associate Editor and Publisher - of the editorial department of the paper. I’m also responsible for writing articles here and there.

In the coming weeks and months I’ll be totally focused on learning my new job and getting acquainted with the Charlotte area and its huge LGBT community, as well as with the various LGBT communities throughout the entire Carolinas region.

I want to thank InterstateQ.com contributors, and my dear friends, Brian and Rob for keeping the blog alive and for keeping posts coming while I’ve been away. I’m glad to have them here and from the looks of some comments on their posts, it seems as though readers are enjoying their thoughts and musings as well.

Well… for now, I head back to work.

PS - The first issue of Q-Notes I’ll be heading up comes on October 20th. I spent all day yesterday working on three pieces including one on the current Employment Non-Discrimination Act controversy over the deletion of transgender protections. To say the least, spending a whole afternoon on the phone with press secretaries of Congressional members isn’t as fun or as exciting as I thought it would be.
