Focus in the Family zeros in on N.C.
by Matt | October 9th, 2007 |Focus on the Family’s “Love and Respect Marriage Conference” is coming to my hometown of Winston-Salem, N.C. this weekend, October 12-13.
This particular conference isn’t necessarily one that deals with me or one that is totally, outrageously anti-gay, but the organization and church which are sponsoring it are those things (not to mention just a tad bit sexist?).
In a radio commercial I heard for the event as I was driving out of Winston and heading back to Charlotte featured an announcer, a man and a woman. Here’s the gist:
Announcer: Women, what if your husband said:
Man: I mean, I really respect her, but I don’t love her.
Announcer: Or, women, how do you think your man would feel if you said:
Woman: I mean, I really love him, but I don’t respect him.
Announcer: Just like his love for you causes you to respect him in this God-ordained relationship, your respect for him will want to make him love you, not control you.
Wow. And that’s all I have to say. Wow.
The conference is October 12-13 if you are interested, and it is being hosted by Winston-Salem’s resident mega-church, Calvary Baptist. More info at their website.
