Anti-gay militants announce ‘forums’ to counter HRC Carolinas Gala

by Matt | January 15th, 2008 |

The Coalition of Conscience (otherwise known as “CoC”), led by Dr. Michael Brown, has announced a week-long series of forums on the LGBT community, homosexuality and the Bible. The forums are designed to counter to 1,500-person strong Human Rights Campaign Carolinas Gala.

CoC, the same organization that held the “Can you be Gay and Christian?” forum in September 2007, will hold forums each night Feb. 11-15. On Wednesday night, Dr. Michael Brown will debate Dr. Harry Knox, the Religion and Faith Director of the Human Rights Campaign. In order to attend the Wednesday night forum, you must have a ticket (available through coalitionofconscience.org).

From CoC’s website:

New Lecture series, Can you be Gay and Christian?

The lectures will be held February 11-15, beginning each night at 7:00 PM; admission is free. The topics include:

Monday night: Are We Using the Bible to Sanction Anti-Homosexual Prejudice?
Tuesday night: Is There Such a Thing as “Ex-Gay”?
Wednesday night: Was Jesus Tolerant?
Thursday night: A Christian Response to Homosexuality: A Dialogue Between Mr. Harry Knox, Director of Faith and Religion of the Human Rights Campaign, and Dr. Michael L. Brown (this special event requires a ticket for admission; free tickets can be obtained by contacting www.coalitionofconscience.org; seating is limited and we will not be able to grant all ticket requests)
Friday night: Ministering to the Gay and Lesbian Community

Location:
Booth Playhouse
130 North Tryon St.
Charlotte, NC 28202

Also… if you’re interested… Dr. Michael Brown debated the hosts of a San Francisco LGBT talk show back on Dec. 2, 2007. Go to Queer Channel Radio’s podcast site and scroll down to Dec. 2. He was identified as being with Focus on the Family with the radio show. His affiliation with the militantly radical right CoC wasn’t mentioned in his introduction. I haven’t listened to the whole thing, but at the beginning Brown talks of “exaggerated pictures” on both sides, mentioning Fred Phelps on the right and the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence on the left. Unfortunately, he fails to mention his radical, militant Coalition of Conscience, which is just as radical as Fred Phelps minus the colorful signs.
