Al Gore on Marriage Equality
by Brian | January 23rd, 2008 |Al Gore has joined the ranks of politicians and former politicians on record supporting marriage equality:
New York Governor Eliot Spitzer introduced a marriage equality bill last year which passed the Assembly, there is overwhelming support from the state lawmakers in my area of Maryland, and even Republicans such as NY Assemblywoman Teresa Sayward and San Diego Mayor Jerry Sanders have acted on pro-equality measures.
I’m happy to see Gore’s announcement and it reminds me that there is no reason to settle lukewarm tolerance. In the words of Martin Luther King, Jr.: It is not the words of my enemies that I will remember, but the silence of my friends.
There is no reason to support a candidate who argues against the full inclusion of gay and transgender individuals in society. I’m making it my personal mission to seek and support candidates from both parties who recognize the Constitutional and Moral necessity to value gay and transgender people and relationships.
I’ll keep you posted on what I find, feel free to share!
