‘The Fox News of the gay community’

by Matt | August 10th, 2008 |

Seems as though DNC Chair Howard Dean is no fan of The Washington Blade.

In taped depositions in the LGBT-DNC lawsuit, Dean calls the foremost LGBT newspaper in the nation the “Fox News of the gay community.”

In a 2006 interview with IN Los Angeles Magazine, Dean said of The Blade, “First of all we consider The Washington Blade to be The New York Post of the gay and lesbain press corps. They’re not credible and they have somebody who has an agenda that is certainly not favorable to the Democratic Party.” He pins “the agenda” on the publisher, who he can’t name, and says the publisher was a former supporter of Reagan.

He also talks of “having not given up on The Blade at this point” and “much of what’s been in The Blade has been incorrect.”

He also said, “What happened as time went on…there really got to be a real hornet’s nest in the LGBT community of dissatisfaction fanned by The Washington Blade.”
