Want a private conversation? Take it off twitter

by Matt Comer, November 4, 2009, 1:50 pm

Along with following election results on county boards of election sites, news sites and TV, I’d also been following updates via twitter yesterday and through today. It got a little interesting this morn.

It seems I “butted in” to what others thought might have been a private conversation. The problem? They were chatting on twitter. Not exactly a place for a private chat, you know.

The complete back story and run-down after the jump…

Conservatives and Tea Party-types have been pulling their hair out, weeping and doing the usual gnashing of teeth mourning thing over the election of Democrat Anthony Foxx as Charlotte’s next mayor. Several have been proclaiming Nov. 3 as the “end of Charlotte,” or “a big mistake.” Other’s have said they’re moving.

Example below…

CLTPatriot Good job VA voters. Wish I could say the same for Charlotte voters. Mark my word, electing Foxx will turn out to be a HUGH mistake. #cltvote

LadyConservativ @CLTPatriot Wait til they feel the full effects of a liberal. They will be sincerely sorry.

CLTPatriot @LadyConservativ Charlotte is so screwed. #tcot #cltvote

jeffasu @CLTPatriot Come to Texas! No state income tax; better economy.

CLTPatriot Packing now. Make room for mom. #tcot #cltvote #teaparty RT @jeffasu @CLTPatriot Come to Texas! No state income tax; better economy.

Now enter me, in what I rightly assume is a *public* conversation…
interstateq @CLTPatriot @jeffasu Houston might elect lesbian mayor http://snipr.com/t22dj Sorry can’t escape progress of American promise #cltvote

CLTPatriot @interstateq Barking up the wrong tree dude. This is about liberty and financial responsibility not sexual preference.

jeffasu @interstateq Good for Houston; I have no issue with that. My issues are purely fiscal. Don’t hurt your knee jerking it around like that.

interstateq @CLTPatriot Tea Partiers & conserv’s often talk about “liberty” while supporting antigay measures. You’re mixed up in the wrong group of ppl

CLTPatriot @interstateq You’re a little too young and confused to give advice to anyone. Thanks, but I only take advice from people I know and respect

jeffasu @interstateq …besides, you have no business butting in when I’m inviting my mom to visit me in TX.

Yeah… maybe it was a bit knee-jerk. But “butting in”? Okay? Whatev. Looks like I’m not the only one “too…confused.”

  • Maybe they don’t understand Twittering and the repercussions of using it. Nothing is really that private anymore…
