Kernersville parent writes in support of Susan Wiseman
by Matt | February 22nd, 2006 |The Winston-Salem Journal published a letter to the editor today regarding the investigation of Susan Wiseman, an East Forsyth High School teacher who, in my opinion, has been falsely accused of sexual misconduct with a student.
Ellen Ann Krieg, the parent of a current high school student, wrote the letter in support of Ms. Wiseman and said that she was “saddened to read about the investigation”. Ms. Krieg goes on to support Wiseman saying, “I believe she is innocent of the allegations, that she is of high character and has only the best intentions for her students and all teenagers.”
I am saddened to read about the investigation of Susan Wiseman for allegations of sexual misconduct. As a parent of a high-school student, I have had the opportunity to get to know her. She is an outstanding teacher and advocate for all teenagers.
I believe she is innocent of the allegations, that she is of high character and has only the best intentions for her students and all teenagers. As she works with students daily in the classroom, I trust that Wiseman realizes the influence she has over them and that she would have no reason to jeopardize her position as a teacher.

I couldn’t agree with the letter more. Ms. Wiseman is definitely innocent. Some may ask how I have the knowledge to know the is innocent or if I have proof of it. Although I may have no “evidence”, per se, of Ms. Wiseman’s innocence, I know in my heart and in my soul (and also from knowing her personally) that she is innocent.
I also know, as related in a previous post, that the investigation surrounding Ms. Wiseman in nothing but a product of the rampant ignorance, prejudice and bigotry within the the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Board of Education and among various administrative personnel.
I also think that this controversy and debate is much bigger and broader than the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County School System. Recently, Ms. Wiseman has come under attack for her involvement in an optional seminar at the NC Governors School-West on the book The New Gay Teenager.
A mother and a father have complained that this seminar was “pro-homosexual” and that it caused their son to question his sexuality. Like I said in two earlier posts about the seminar (”Governors School turned my son gay” and “Governors School turned my son gay, Part II“), if this boy were questioning his sexuality or confused about it, he was in that state long before ever attending the seminar. The parents, Mr. & Mrs. Burrows, are just looking for someone to blame while they continue in states of denial and anger over the possibility that their son might not be who they have always thought he would.
I don’t think this situation is going to get any better. All I can do is speak up and speak the truth: Ms. Wiseman is innocent; the Governors School did nothing wrong; and Mr. & Mrs. Burrows need some counseling to deal with their many emotional issues surrounding their son’s sexuality (whatever it may be).
