Brokeback High’s Brandon Flyte back to school
Brandon Flyte, the straight high school student who made the “Brokeback HIgh” film project and then was subjected to punishments from schoool officials over a gay snuggling scene in the film, has returned to school.
Flyte, who has had pressure on both sides of the issue, has had to fight the school and gay activists, many of whom turned on him when the possibility of a hoax was brought up. Through all the confusion in the issue, however, it turns out in the end that Brandon was right all along.
Here is his most recent posting at BrandonFlyte.com:
3/23/2006 As of yesterday, I’m once again an attending student at West Linn High School.
The meeting on Monday with Superintendent Woehl, the WLHS administrators, my mom, and my attorneys went well. As expected, since my attorneys were present and the district’s attorney was not, Woehl didn’t want to talk about any litigations, and the topic of conversation stuck to getting me back in school.
Even though I am back in school, the fight for justice is far from over. More information on the continuing fight in the days to come. I want to thank everyone who has stayed on my side throughout this ordeal. This is in part because of all of you, because my voice has not been the only one they heard. So thank you, all of you.
Hopefully Brandon will be able to pull out of all this and make sure nothing like this happens again. I do have to stress, though… This kid is STRAIGHT, and look at what all he is doing for LGBT student. Brandon is a wonderful straight ally.
