WS writer responds to anti-gay letter
by Matt | March 27th, 2006 |
A letter to the editor was published in The Winston-Salem Journal today responding to a previous letter bashing gay parents and gay adoption.
The writer, a level-headed and sane individual, lays out the truest and most basic argument: It does not matter who the parents are: As long as a child is raised by supporting, nurturing, positive and loving parents, all will be okay:
Not ChosenÂ
Contrary to the beliefs of the writer of “Adopting Children” (March 15), one’s sexual orientation is not chosen any more than is being right-handed or left-handed or having blue eyes or brown eyes. It is a God-given characteristic of each individual.
As far as gay individuals being allowed to adopt children, I can see nothing detrimental in a child being brought up in a loving home, whether by two men, two women, or a man and a woman. When it is a loving, nurturing home, those children will turn out to be completely normal according to their individual characteristics.
