UNCG CRs kick off Morals Week

The UNCG College Republicans kicked off their “Morals Week” today with “Red State Day”. Among the many Republican candidates for office and elected representatives present at the event, some of the better known included Vernon Robinson (Candidate, 13th US Congressional District), Marcus Kindley (Guilford Co. GOP Chair), and Representative Dale Folwell (NC-74). And I’d have to say: Melissa Westmoreland (UNCG CR President) and I take one really good picture, lol (pictured right).

And… oh yeah… Bob Crumley was there too, beginning his 2008 campaign for NC Attorney General. You might be saying… “Hmmm, that name sounds familiar.” Well, you should be saying that: I’m sure you’ve seen Crumley on your local TV station in the commercials for his injury law firm. Kind of ironic really: Robinson vehemently hates trial attorneys and, ha… one of his colleagues is nothing short of an ambulance chaser!

Although I’d love to make a longer post about the goings-on during “Red State Day” it is just simply too late. I have a test in the morning and things to do, so expect a good post later (mainly about the ridiculous, hate-filled speech of Robinson).

I must say, however, that although I am good friends with the great majority of those students involved in the College Republicans and although the UNCG CRs officially take no stance on LGBT issues, Monday’s event with Vernon Robinson and hearing the hate-filled, bigoted and ignorant statements he made regarding LGBT people made me remember why I am proud to be a Democrat. It also reminded me of why I tried like hell to stay as far away from those CRs my freshman year. My only question is this: How in the hell did I become friends with them? Oh well… I guess opposites attract (although I don’t think Robinson will be “attracted” to me any time soon… or at least I pray like hell he won’t).
