Day of Silence tomorrow 4.26.2006
by Matt | April 25th, 2006 |
The National Day of Silence is tomorrow, Wednesday, April 26, 2006.
The Day of Silence is a day in which LGBT students and their straight allies take a vow of silence in order to recognize and raise awareness on the silence which LGBT people must face in society. The national project is sponsored and coordinated by GLSEN, the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network.
In recent days, the Day of Silence has come under attack not only by the national Alliance Defense Fund and their “Day of Truth” but also by local organizations and personalities in North Carolina.
In a past post I discussed how Called2Action, a Raleigh-based , radical Christian political group, had sent out a message alerting parents to the Day of Silence and urging parents to have their children counteract the “subversive and disturbing infiltration” of the homosexual “agenda” in the schools. You can see that past post here.
Local blogger Joe Guarino has also spoken out against the Day of Silence. You can read his post on the subject here.
Students can find out more about the Day of Silence and how to participate at http://www.dayofsilence.org

Well… I would try and do that but I think everyone is pretty much clear on the fact that I CAN’T keep my mouth shut, lol.

My little sister’s helping to organize the Day of Silence at her high school in a rural NC town that is pretty hostile to it. Will have to get the scoop on how it went tomorrow.

Yes… Joe. Get the scoop. If you want (and I really want you to) write up a little post on it and be a guest blogger on here, lol

Matt - will think about it, if it goes well.
If it went really badly I’ll just send her flowers.
As I wrote on my blog today - she’s got it a little rougher growing up where she is than I did.
