Matt Comer, LGBT activist & youth advocate, is a student at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG) – currently taking a semester off for work and other activities – and native of Winston-Salem, NC. Matt has been active in LGBT advocacy, grassroots activism and progressive politics since the age of 14.

He is also the Founder & current Executive Director of ACTIVATE, The North Carolina Advocacy Coalition (www.ncadvocacycoalition.org). He is 21 years old.

Matt started this blog first on Blogger and then later moved to a paid hosting service (TechTriad). In January 2007, the entire site moved to its current home, InterstateQ.com. You can read more about Matt on the About page or at MattHillComer.com

Brian, 22, is a resident of New York City where he works for a children’s television network. Originally from Maryland, he went to the University of Southern California where he studied film and religion. NEW STAFF CONTRIBUTOR POSITION
InterstateQ.com is looking for a new youth to fill a new staff contributor position.

Requirements:

  • Be smart, entertaining, intelligent and exciting
  • Experience with the WordPress blogging software a plus
  • Prior experience writing for a blog with some sort of journalistic or opinion/commentary style or for a newspaper, magazine, or web-magazine
  • Commit to researching, writing and publishing at least two-three posts per week
  • Commit to helping to publicize InterstateQ.com to friends and colleagues, by actively participating in the blogosphere (reading and commenting on other blogs) and pointing people to InterstateQ.com, THE source for LGBTQI news & commentary on politics and activism from a youth perspective.
  • Be between the ages of 16 and 30 years (we are, of course, a youth-run site)
  • If you are interested and think you may be qualified, please email matt ‘at’ interstateq ‘dot’ com, providing the following bits of info:
    Name
    Location
    Email Address
    AIM, MySpace address (if applicable)
    Prior blogging experience, if any
    Prior journalism/commentary experience, if any

NOTE: We highly encourage those who usually have no voice or limited voices in politics and society to voice their opinions through guest contributions or by becoming a staff contributor. Persons of color, women and transgender individuals are encouraged to contribute.

Brandy Daniels, a graduate of Azusa Pacific University, is a straight ally who wants to see equal rights for all, regardless of sexual orientation, in our country and our churches. She briefly worked on her doctorate in psychology at Wheaton College, but is taking a hiatus to participate in Soulforce’s Equality Ride.

She is a native of Southern California and currently resides in the Chicagoland area. Brandy is 22 years old.

CYLEST BROOKS

Cylest, 21 years old, hails from Fort Wayne, Indiana, and is participating in this year’s Soulforce Equality Ride as a straight ally. Cylest developed a strong desire to engage in activism after the suicide of a gay friend. Equality Ride is her first participation with Soulforce. Cylest will be riding on the Western Route of the Equality Ride.
She plans to begin a career in activism and is thrilled to be teaming up with Matt Hill Comer and Brandy Daniels here on InterstateQ.

Cylest was made an InterstateQ contributor in early March 2006.
