Rally to protest Boy Scout policy will get under way today

A rally will be held this weekend to protest a Boy Scout policy that allows the exclusion of openly gay youth from membership in the organization.

The Scouting For All Rally Winston-Salem 2002 begins today. An opening reception will be held from 6 to 8 tonight at the Unitarian-Universalist Fellowship of Winston-Salem, 4055 Robinhood Road. The rally will continue with a silent protest from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday in front of the offices of the local chapter of the Boy Scouts at 6600 Silas Creek Parkway.

The closing reception will be from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Saturday at the church.

The rally is sponsored by Replacements, Ltd. of Greensboro and the Unitarian-Universalist Fellowship of Winston-Salem.

The rally is being held in conjunction with the National Rally Week of Scouting For All, a national effort to try to get the Scouts to change the policy.
